Dr. R Chauhan
Oral Surgeon

After qualifying from the Royal Dental Hospital, London in 1984, Dr. Chauhan entered the NHS hospital service. Having worked in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery units in London (St. Georges Hospital, Whittington Hospital, Royal Free Hospital, St. Bartholomew’s Hospital,), in Hertfordshire (Lister and QEII Hospitals), in Bedfordshire (Bedford Hospital and Luton & Dunstable Hospital) , the Royal Liverpool Hospital in Liverpool, and gaining extensive experience in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and inpatient management and treatment. Dr. Chauhan then moved to Welwyn Garden City taking up a post at the Lister and QEII Hospitals in 1991, and also at the same time setting up a Specialist Oral Surgery practice in Watton at Stone.

During the years of hospital training, Dr. Chauhan gained the Fellowships in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. In 2000 he was admitted by the General Dental Council to the Specialist List in Oral Surgery.

After completing a number of dental implant training courses, in 2003, Dr. Chauhan graduated from a years advanced course in dental implantology at the Tatum Institute in Harley Street, London. Dr. Hilt Tatum (the Institutes Founder, and currently a Professor at Lille University in France) has over the last 30 years invented many of the techniques used in dental implantology today.

Dr. Chauhan currently works as a Consultant in Oral Surgery for the East & North Herts NHS Trust (Lister & QEII Hospitals). He is one the chosen providers for Minor Oral Surgery Procedures in Primary Care for the East and North Herts NHS Trust, carrying out this work for the NHS at his Clinic in Watton at Stone. He also specialises in dental implantology.

Dr N Wilwaraarachi
Dental Surgeon

Dr Wilwaraarachi, better known to our patients as Dr Wil, joined the practice in December 2016. Dr Wil qualified in 2011 from Kings College London and also holds a BSc from the University of Manchester in 2006.

Dr Wil believes in a friendly, caring and informative approach to his dentistry, with the aim of removing old taboos associated with the profession. As dentistry continues to progress, Dr Wil attends many courses to aid providing the best possible care for this patients.

He provides Invisalign treatment with the aid of an iTero digital scanner, allowing patients to achieve the smile they dream of. Dr Wil has been providing Invisalign since 2017 and has completed more than 50 cases. He also uses the Digital scanner to make crowns, which gives you a far superior fit compared to crowns made from traditional impressions.

Dr Wil has completed a post-graduate Certificate in Implantology with the VSSA academy and is able to place dental implants to restore missing teeth. He has also completed a post-graduate Certificate in Cosmetic Dentistry to refine his veneers, composite bonding, crowns, bridges and implants.

Dr Wil is very keen on education and nurturing young students into their chosen career. In 2015 he was a Foundation Training dentist for Health Education East of England, where he aided new dentists transitioning from dental school to working in general practice. Furthermore, he visits Queen Elizabeth’s School, Barnet to provide career talks and training for dental interviews for budding new dentists, a service he has been providing since 2011.

Dr Paayal Shah
Oral Surgeon

Payal is a specialist Oral Surgeon, recognised on the General Dental Council specialist list. She works across East and North Hertfordshire, London and Bedfordshire, in both NHS and private practice. 

Paayal qualified as a dental surgeon from King’s College London in 2011. She completed Vocational Training and was granted Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2012. She built foundations within the speciality, undertaking various positions in Oral Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery across several NHS hospitals. 

Paayal went on to attain the sole Higher Specialist Training position in Oral Surgery within the East of England. Her passion for teaching led to the completion of a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Education awarded by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. 

She completed specialist training and successfully attained the Tri-collegiate Membership in Oral Surgery, gaining entry on the GDC Specialist Register. This culminated in the position of locum Consultant in Oral Surgery at the East and North Hertfordshire Trust Hospitals. 

Paayal is a registered member of the British Dental Association (BDA), the British Association of Oral Surgeons (BAOS) and the Society of the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry (SAAD) and is especially skilled in managing anxious or nervous patients.  She is also a member of the UK Association of Tongue-Tie Practitioners.

Her specialist interests within this practice include:  

  • Complex wisdom teeth removal
  • Orthodontic-related surgery involving impacted teeth
  • Management of cysts of the jaws
  • Soft tissue surgery including frenectomy, polyp removal and oral biopsy
  • Infant tongue tie division
  • Diagnosis and management of oral medicine conditions
  • Management of oral surgery-related complications

Paayal continues to hold a mentorship role in supporting dentists with aspirations in Oral Surgery. She is involved in post graduate education and training, and regularly attends lectures and conferences, ensuring she remains up to date with the latest techniques and developments in her field.  She has published several articles in peer-reviewed dental and surgical journals and presented her work at both national and international levels. 

Having well over twelve years of experience within the speciality, Paayal is able to treat a range of complex oral surgery and is well versed in the management of patients with medical co-morbidities. 

She takes pride in being a caring and diligent surgeon and is committed to making the experience as comfortable as possible.  She is particularly adept in the treatment of anxious patients, bringing her gentle demeanour and friendly manner to the forefront of her oral surgery practice.
